Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (11-5-0-0) prevailed 2-1 in a physical game to take down the Ontario Reign (10-8-0-2), on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center on Stick Up for Kids night presented by The UPS Stores of Fort Collins. The inaugural event raised over $30,000 for seven local charities.

Reign forward Everett Sheen started the scoring early by intercepting a pass, firing a shot on net, then putting his own rebound home past a diving Eagles netminder Clarke Saunders to give the Reign a 1-0 lead 1:37 into the game. With 7:51 gone in the first, Eagles forward Jordan Kwas rang a one-timer off of the crossbar into the net on a rebound from teammate Derek Rodwell, evening the score at one goal apiece.

Eagles forward Nathan Moon was awarded a penalty shot 17:28 into the second period, then proceeded to freeze Reign goalie Jussi Olkinuora and burry the puck above his glove to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.

Saunders stole the show, stopping 32 of 33 pucks shot his way. He shined brightest in the final minute, standing on his head after the Reign pulled their goalie to secure the victory for the Eagles.
