Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Moline, IL (November 29, 2014) - The Missouri Mavericks came out on top against the Quad City Mallards for the second occasion this season in a game decided in extra time. Tied 1-1 at the end of the first period, the Mavs and Mallards held the stalemate through regulation for an OT decision, and a 2-1 Missouri victory.

The Mallards struck first, taking a 1-0 jump on the Mavs at 12:10 of the opening frame when centerman Logan Nelson netted a goal for the home team. It was not until the final :51 of the period that the Mavs were able to tally the equalizer, as Chris Crane scored off an assist from teammates Josh Brittain and Steven Tarasuk.

Though presented with equal opportunity to take the lead (Shots on Goal: Missouri-10, Quad City-11), neither team was able to take command of the game with another lamp-lighter through the second twenty minutes of play. Mavs goaltender, Mike Clemente, had an impressive display between the pipes for Missouri, making eleven saves and denying the Mallards aggressive offensive push toward the end of the frame.

When a game decision could not be reached in the third period, the contest headed to overtime.

The Mavericks were handed a significant power play opportunity during extra time, giving the visiting team two-minutes of precious man-advantage time over the Quad City Mallards. Nothing for three power-play opportunities through regulation, the Mavs had to make something of this rare situation.

Only :38 into their power play (2:32), Missouri's Andrew Courtney was credited with a redirected goal past Mallard's net minder Parker Milner to give the Mavericks a 2-1 OT win. Martin Lee and Josh Brittain assisted on Courtney's game-winning power-play goal.

This is the second time in two encounters that the Mavs and Mallards have taken the game decision to extra time with the Mavericks coming out on top. (Sunday, November 23rd - Missouri 4, Quad City 3 - SO).

Missouri, having bested the Mallards in their first two contests will look to continue the streak when they meet Quad City again at Independence Events Center for their next game on Tuesday, December 2nd.

Tickets are available for purchase online at TicketMaster.com or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center.
