Dragons Fall to Clinton 4-0; Series Finale Set for Wednesday Night

Dayton, Ohio - Clinton's Jerar Encarnacion hit a home run and drove in three runs and three Lumber Kings pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout as they defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-0 on Tuesday night. A crowd of 8,034 was in attendance at Fifth Third Field.

Clinton starting pitcher Manuel Rodriguez worked the first six innings, allowing five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Clinton pitchers allowed only two runners past first base in the game.

Clinton took the lead in the fourth inning when Encarnacion doubled to right field with a runner at second base to make it 1-0. Then in the sixth, Encarnacion belted a two-run home run to left-center field to give the Lumber Kings a 3-0 lead. Encarnacion, the Midwest League leader in runs batted in, increased his total to 28 for the year. Clinton closed out the scoring with a run in the eighth inning.

Dragons starting pitcher Jared Solomon pitched well, retiring the first nine hitters of the game. He worked four and two-thirds innings, allowing just three base runners. Solomon struck out seven without walking a hitter, allowing three hits and one run. Eduardo Salazar followed Solomon and tossed an inning and one-third, allowing two runs on just one hit with one walk and two strikeouts. Eddy Demurias entered the game to start the seventh inning and allowed one run in two innings, giving up three hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Matt Pidich pitched a perfect ninth inning.

The Dragons finished the night with six hits. Mariel Bautista went 2 for 4 and was the only player with more than one hit. The Dragons did not have an extra base hit after belting four home runs on Monday.

Notes: Dragons pitchers combined to strikeout 11 while walking only one batter...The Dragons did not commit an error and have only two over their last eight games...The Dragons have won three of their last five games and will need a win in Wednesday's series finale to earn their second straight series victory.

Up Next: The Dragons (11-20) close out the three-game series with Clinton (16-14) on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Ricky Salinas (0-0, 4.50) will start for Dayton against Tanner Andrews (0-0, 2.25). The Dragons will remain home on Thursday night to open a three-game series with the Burlington Bees.
