Lansing Lugnuts News Release
IOWA CITY, Ia. - Brett Conine and Humberto Castellanos combined on a five-hitter, leading the Quad Cities River Bandits (20-10) past the Lansing Lugnuts (14-17), 6-0, on Tuesday night at Duane Banks Field.
The result spoiled the return of Lansing right-hander Josh Winckowski (Loss, 2-1) from the Injured List; Winckowski allowed two runs in each of the first two innings, giving up four runs (three earned) in four total innings, striking out two while allowing five hits and four walks.
The Lugnuts' offense collected three hits and drew four walks against Conine (Win, 3-2) in five innings, including a bases-loaded threat in the fourth on three straight two-out walks, but was unable to break through.
Castellanos (Save, 2) gave up back-to-back singles to Ryan Gold and Tanner Kirwer to open the sixth inning, but stranded runners at the corners. He pitched the final three innings without issue, striking out four in all.
In the loss, shortstop Otto Lopez went 2-for-4 with two singles and Nick Podkul went 1-for-4 with a single to extend his on-base streak to 17 games.
Right-hander Juan De Paula (6.38 ERA) starts the finale of the three-game series against River Bandits right-hander Nivaldo Rodriguez (1.33 ERA) at 7:35 p.m. Eastern, 6:35 p.m. local time, on Wednesday at Banks Field.
The Lugnuts return home for a three-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps from a Dollar Monday, May 13th, through a Dog Days of Summer Wednesday, May 15th. To live the Lug Life and purchase tickets, visit lansinglugnuts.com or call (517) 485-4500.
