
'Dogs edged by Stars in shootout

Hamilton, ON - Bulldogs forward Brad Winchester scored twice but it was not enough as Hamilton fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Iowa Stars on Monday evening at Copps Coliseum.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring just six seconds into the game when J.J. Hunter centered a pass to Brad Winchester who knocked the puck behind Iowa netminder Dan Ellis. The goal was the fastest to start a game in franchise history.
Iowa tied the game 1-1at 11:01 when former Bulldog Dan Jancevski took a wrist shot from the point that beat Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis. The Stars took their first lead of the game at 16:34 on the power play when Junior Lessard took a shot from the left face off circle that beat Danis. Iowa extended their lead at 18:59 of the first period during a power play when Kyle Brodziak circled the net and beat Danis.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to 3-2, scoring a power play goal at 4:29 of the second period. Danny Syvret took a shot from the blue line that Ellis stopped but Duncan Milroy buried the rebound. Hamilton tied the game at 9:02 on the power play when Winchester one-timed a shot from the face off circle.
Iowa regained the lead 4-3, at 7:33 of the third period when Toby Petersen backhanded a shot behind Danis. With 4:21 remaining in the third period, defenceman Jean-Philippe Cote tied the game for the âDogs, receiving a centering pass from Francis Lemieux and putting it over a sprawling Ellis.
The two teams went scoreless during the overtime period, forcing a shootout. During the shootout, Mathias Tjarnqvist and Jamie Johnson scored for the Iowa Stars. Pierre Dagenais scored for the âDogs.
Danis made 31 saves on 35 shots for the loss. Ellis made 18 saves on 22 shots for the win.
Hamilton was 2 for 6 on the power play while Iowa went 2 for 9.
Hamilton's next action will take place on Wednesday, March 15, when they travel to Toronto to face the Marlies .
