March 13, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - Left wing Greg Mauldin has been loaned to the Houston Aeros from the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets, while rookie forward Brendan Bernakevitch has been loaned to the Aeros from the American Hockey League's Manchester Monarchs, the teams announced Monday. In addition, the Minnesota Wild has loaned right wing Alexander Daigle (DAYG) to Manchester, defenseman Dustin Wood to AHL Syracuse and defenseman Chris Heid to AHL Cleveland.
The moves were all made prior to today's "Clear Day" deadline. According to AHL by-laws, only those players listed on a team's Clear Day roster are eligible to compete in the remaining five weeks of the AHL regular season and in the 2006 Calder Cup Playoffs, unless emergency conditions arise as a result of recall, injury or suspension. Every team's Clear Day roster will be announced Tuesday, no earlier than 9 a.m. (ct).
Mauldin, 23 (6/10/82), has put up solid numbers in two-plus seasons for the Crunch, totaling 56 points (19-37=56) and 102 penalty minutes in 124 games. This season for Syracuse, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Holliston, Mass., has posted 29 points (12-17=29) in 56 games. Mauldin, who was Columbus' seventh-round pick, No. 199 overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, made his NHL debut on March 26, 2004 with the Blue Jackets, and he finished with six games played and four penalty minutes. Mauldin attended the University of Massachusetts.
Bernakevitch, 23 (7/14/82), has posted 17 points (9-8=17) and 20 penalty minutes in 20 games for the Monarchs this season. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Regina, Sask., played four seasons at Harvard, totaling 65 points (24-41=65) in 116 games.
Wood, 24 (5/21/81), had seven points (1-6=7) and 48 penalty minutes in 64 games with the Aeros. He has the longest active games played streak in the AHL at 206.
Heid, 22 (3/14/83), had one assist in four games with the Aeros this season. He was playing with ECHL Pensacola at the time of the transaction, with 20 points (4-16=20) and 69 penalty minutes in 50 games.
