Oklahoma City Comets News Release

San Antonio, Texas - Matt Beaty hit a three-run homer to send the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 4-1 win against the San Antonio Missions Sunday afternoon as the Dodgers avoided a road series sweep at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Beaty celebrated his 26th birthday Sunday with his second homer of the season. With two runners on and two outs in the third inning, the infielder hit the first pitch he saw out to right field for a 3-0 Oklahoma City advantage.

Sunday's win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Dodgers, who recorded their highest run total of the five-game set in San Antonio. Oklahoma City's four runs also were the most runs allowed by San Antonio in nine straight games.

The Dodgers (8-15) held the Missions to one run, marking the first time Oklahoma City has held an opponent to fewer than two runs since a 3-0 win at Iowa April 13 (15 games).

Beaty's three-run shot broke a scoreless tie in the third inning and snapped a three-game stretch without a home run for Oklahoma City's offense. Beaty now leads the Dodgers with 23 hits and moved into a tie for the team lead with his eighth extra-base knock of 2019.

With a 3-0 lead in place, Oklahoma City outfielder Paulo Orlando led off the fourth inning with a single as he went on to finish the afternoon with a season-high and game-high three hits.

Shortstop Errol Robinson's RBI single with two outs later in the inning scored Orlando to boost the Dodgers' lead to 4-0.

Dodgers starting pitcher Daniel Corcino (2-1) held the Missions without a hit through three innings and scoreless through five innings.

San Antonio (14-9) went on to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning and Jake Hager hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home the Missions' lone run of the day and cut the Dodgers' lead to three runs. Dodgers reliever Josh Smoker then got Cory Spangenberg to ground out to end the inning and limit the Missions to one run.

San Antonio's pitching staff retired 10 straight Dodgers batters between the fifth and eighth innings, keeping the Dodgers from adding to their lead.

In his team-leading fifth start of the season, Corcino picked up the win for the Dodgers, allowing one run and three hits over 5.1 innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Smoker, Zach McAllister and Joe Broussard combined for 2.2 scoreless innings for Oklahoma City before JT Chargois closed out the game with a scoreless ninth, issuing one walk with three strikeouts in his first save of the season.

San Antonio starting pitcher Thomas Jankins (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing all four Dodgers runs and five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Missions had won the first four games of the series to win the first-ever series between the teams at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium, 4-1.

The Dodgers return home to open a four-game home series against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Tickets are available through the OKC Dodgers ticket office located on South Mickey Mantle Drive, by phone at (405) 218-2182, or by visiting okcdodgers.com.
