Devils Win Shootout Thriller Over Rocket, 3-2

BINGHAMTON - The Binghamton Devils came back to defeat the Laval Rocket in a shootout, 3-2, inside Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night. The win was Binghamton's 11th in the last 13 games.
Following a scoreless 35 minutes, Laval opened the scoring with 5:59 remaining in the second period. Beside the net, Jake Evans sent a pass up to Charles Hudon who rocketed a shot past Gilles Senn from the has marks for his 20th goal of the season. Evans and Joe Cox picked up the assists and the Rocket took a 1-0 lead.
30 seconds later, the Rocket added to the lead as Laurent Dauphin raced down the ice and took a shot that was blocked by Dakota Mermis out in front. Dauphin picked up the loose puck and was able to sink his own rebound for a 2-0 Laval lead. Michael Pezzetta grabbed the primary assist and Karl Alzner logged the second and the Devils trailed by two to start the third period.
The start of the third period brought renewed energy for Binghamton as they cut the Laval lead in half just 3:41 into the final frame. Michael McLeod moved the puck down the ice until he got off a shot that was blocked by a crowd of skaters in front of the net. After the puck was tapped back out, it landed on the stick of Cumiskey who slammed it past Cayden Primeau for his second goal of the season. The assists were credited to Brandon Baddock and McLeod and the Devils trailed 2-1.
The Devils tied the game up at two with 5:24 remaining in the third stanza after a review of play confirmed the goal. Egor Sharangovich sent a pass to Josh Jacobs who blasted a shot from just in front of the blue line that slid under the pads of Primeau, who unknowingly kicked the puck over the goal line. The goal was Jacobs' fifth of the year to force overtime and eventally a shootout.
In the third round of the shootout, Joey Anderson beat Primeau for the extra point.
The Devils are back home next Friday and Saturday for Slap Shot Weekend against Providence and Rochester. The Devils will transform into the Broome County Blades and fans can meet Dave "Killer" Carlson played by Jerry Houser at the game. Also, pucks and tee shirts will be available along with VIP packages that include a ticket to both games.
