Belleville Special Teams Too Much for Comets

Belleville, Ont. - The Utica Comets surrendered two power play goals and a shorthanded goal in a 4-1 loss to the Belleville Senators Saturday night at CAA Arena. Justin Bailey and Ashton Sautner were the goal scorers for Utica. Michael DiPietro made 27 saves in the loss.

Drake Batherson scored on a five-on-three power play 11:48 into the game to put Belleville up 1-0 early.

Morgan Klimchuk doubled the lead with a shorthanded goal with 8:17 to play in the second period after a turnover on the boards. Justin Bailey cut into Belleville's lead with six seconds to go in the second period, depositing a rebound after Brogan Rafferty hit the post.

Rudolfs Balcers restored Belleville's two-goal lead six minutes into the third with another power play goal. Filip Chlapik made it 4-1 with 8:03 remaining in regulation. Sautner cut Belleville's lead in half with 2:35 to go in regulation, slipping a shot past Joey Daccord from the left circle.

The Comets return to the ice Friday, January 31 on the road against the Cleveland Monsters. Puck drop at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHLTV.
