PROVIDENCE - The Binghamton Devils finished the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Providence Bruins in front of 9,864 at Dunkin' Donuts Center on Saturday night.
After an evenly played opening half of the first period, the Devils took a 1-0 lead with 6:00 remaining. Tariq Hammond found Nick Lappin alone in the left circle with a cross-ice backhand pass. Lappin fired a one timer past Dan Vladar and notched his 17th goal of the season. Brett Seney recorded an assist on the play as well. Evan Cormier stopped all nine shots and Binghamton went into the intermission with a one goal lead.
Providence turned on the jets in the second period, outshooting Binghamton 16-7 and outscoring them 2-0. The Bruins tied the game at 5:53 as Jordan Szwarz fired a wrister past Cormier on a three-on-two rush. They almost took the lead shortly after, but Cormier robbed Zach Senyshyn with his left leg on a rebound in front.
Paul Carey gave the Bruins their first lead of the night with 4:35 remaining in the period. Carey tipped a pass from the circle from Gemel Smith over the shoulder of Cormier to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead going into the third.
The Bruins extended their lead to two goals 4:22 into the third period. Paul Carey scored his second goal of the game during the front half of a four-minute power play. Cormier made the initial save on a tip play in front, but Carey was there to clean up the rebound.
Binhamton had an opportunity to get back into the game with a late power play, but they couldn't solve Vladar, as they fell to Bruins 3-1.
