(Hershey, PA) - The Washington Capitals announced today that they have recalled defenseman Tyler Lewington from the Hershey Bears. The announcement was made by Washington's senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan.

Lewington, 24, has collected 14 points (three goals, 11 assists), a +5 rating, and a team-high 113 penalty minutes in 57 games this season with the Chocolate and White. He posted a three-game assist streak from Mar. 10-15, tying a career-best streak. He leads the Bears in fighting majors with seven, and ranks third among AHL defenders in penalty minutes. In 232 career games with Hershey, Lewington has posted 48 points (12 goals, 36 assists), a +27 rating, and 493 penalty minutes.

This is Lewington's second recall to the Capitals. He was recalled to Washington on Dec. 15 and made his NHL debut on Dec. 22 versus Ottawa. In just his second NHL game on Dec. 29, Lewington scored a Gordie Howe hat trick, recording his first career NHL goal, assist, and fight. The Alberta native was originally a 7th round selection of the Capitals in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Hershey visits Cleveland at 7:05 p.m. tonight. The game may be heard on the Bears Radio Network and viewed on AHLTV.
