Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones play three games at U.S. Bank Arena this week, two outside of North Division competition, looking to extend their six-game winning streak. Wednesday (Feb. 6), Mississippi visits for a 10am game, while Friday, Trenton comes to the Queen City and Saturday, Mississippi comes back.
WEEK OF PROMOTIONS: The game Wednesday morning is one of the annual 'Education In Hockey Day' games where students in the area come to a game and are taught by some of the Cyclones ten college graduates. Friday night, it is Montreal Canadiens Night--where the Cyclones will wear their NHL affiliate's jerseys and fans will be able to bid on the uniforms worn by the players that night. Saturday night, it is Twister Bobblehead Night--where the first 1500 fans will receive bobbleheads of the Cyclones mascot.
TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS: With the three wins last week, the Cyclones extended their winning streak to six games. The half dozen consecutive wins is the second-longest stretch of the campaign, behind the eight-game stretch from Dec. 16-31.
ABOUT LAST WEEK...: The Cyclones began the week with a 2-1 triumph versus Charlotte. Cincinnati scored twice in the third period, as Thomas Beauregard and Scott Reynolds tallied the goals. Friday night, Cincinnati won at Wheeling, 4-1, as Beauregard added a pair of goals. Saturday night, the Cyclones again pulled out a 2-1 triumph at Trenton, as Beauregard and Barret Ehgoetz netted the goals.
DESHARNAIS SHINES: Cyclones rookie forward David Desharnais has enjoyed his first pro season. After signing with the Cyclones prior to the season, Desharnais was invited to Hamilton's training camp. He was later signed by the Bulldogs and re-assigned to Cincinnati. David presently ranks third in the ECHL in scoring among rookies with 49 (12-37-49). He represented Cincinnati at the 2008 Rbk ECHL All-Star Game and had an assist in the contest. Since Dec. 31, Desharnais has an eleven-game point scoring streak, netting 16 points during that span (1-15-16). David has a team-best nine-game assist streak running currently (0-12-12).
BEAUREGARD ENJOYS WEEK: Cyclones right wing Thomas Beauregard enjoyed last week, netting four goals and adding an assist for five points. Cincinnati collected eight goals during the week and Beauregard was a part of 63 percent of those during the week. For the season, Thomas ranks ninth among rookies in the ECHL with 43 points and his 21 goals ties him for third among first year players in lighting the lamp.
COMEBACK KIDS: The wins Wednesday night over Charlotte and Saturday at Trenton, marked the twelfth, and thirteenth, come-from-behind victories this club has pulled off this season. Last year, the club rallied 13 times to win games. This season, the Cyclones have rallied to win four times when trailing by two goals. All three overtime/shootout losses suffered by the team have been rallies as well. Altogether, Cincinnati has earned 29 points in the standings after they have trailed in a game.
TEN, ELEVEN, TWELVE...: The Cyclones are riding a club record twelve game home unbeaten in regulation string (10-0-2). The run surpasses the eleven game stretch, set last year from Nov. 18 through Jan. 6 with a 9-0-2 mark. Cincinnati has not lost a game in regulation time at U.S. Bank Arena since Nov. 24, when Dayton beat the Cyclones, 4-2. The team is 15-3-3 (.786) at home.
GRUMET-MORRIS STANDS TALL: Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris has won his last three starts and is 15-1-1 in his last 17 decisions. Since that stretch started on November 4, Grumet-Morris has a 2.25 goals against average and a .917 save percentage in those decisions. For the season, Dov has the fourth-most wins in the league and holds a 17-3-1 record, a 2.43 goals against average (ninth-best in the league) and a .906 save percentage.
THAT MAKES ZERO SENSE: The Cyclones are 19-8-1 when scoring the first goal of a game. They have an even more impressive 12-0-2 mark when they ALLOW the first goal of a game.
THAT IS EVEN DISTRIBUTION...: The Cyclones have 31 game winning goals this season, with eleven different players collecting them. A total of 16 players have either a game winning goal or assisted on a game winning goal so far this season.
TWENTY-THREE OVER!: With the six game winning streak, the Cyclones are 23 games above .500 for the first time in team history. The last time a Cincinnati pro hockey team was 23 games above break even was at the end of the 1995-96 season when the IHL's Cyclones finished 29 games above .500, at 51-22-9 (.677 winning percentage).
ON A ROLL!: The Cyclones are the only ECHL team to have a better than .500 record against every team it has played this season. Cincinnati has played eight different opponents in 2007-08 and has at least one more win than loss against all of them. Las Vegas has an equal number of wins and losses to Victoria, but has otherwise accomplished the same feat.
WE'RE ONLY AT HOME WHEN WE'RE ON THE ROAD...: The Cyclones are 16-5 (.762 winning percentage) away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. Since Nov. 13 at Dayton, the Cyclones are 13-3 (.813) away from the Queen City.
JUST WIN, BABY: The Cyclones, with a record of 31-8-3, are 23 games above .500. The club reached a club record 19 games above break even (25-6-3) on Jan. 5. On March 19, 1995 the Louisville Riverfrogs beat Erie, 5-1, to improve to 38-22-8--the only time in history that the organization had been 16 games above break even. The last time a Cincinnati pro sports team was at least 20 games above .500 was when the Cincinnati Reds were 96-67 after their game on October 4, 1999. The Cyclones have the ECHL's second-best winning percentage (.774--trailing only Texas).
CEDRICK SLOWS THEM DOWN: Cyclones goaltender Cedrick Desjardins leads the ECHL with four shutouts and also leads the circuit with a 2.01 goals against average. Desjardins is 7-1-1 in his last nine decisions, dating back to November 30. During that stretch, Cedrick has a 1.76 goals against average and a .941 save percentage.
WE ARE QUITE OFFENSIVE: The Cyclones have scored a league-high 168 goals, tied with Texas--but having done so in two fewer games. Cincinnati is averaging 4.00 goals per game, the most in the ECHL. The club has also posted four games in which it has netted eight goals--which ties a team-record for most games with at least as many in a season.
GUNNING FOR 32 WINS!: The Cyclones picked up their 31st win of the season Saturday night at Trenton--setting a club record for earliest, and fastest, to the plateau. Previously, the 1995-96 Louisville squad had 31 wins on Feb. 24 to establish both records. The average date in club history to register 31 wins is March 20. Last season, the Cyclones collected their 32nd win on March 10.
SHATTER THIS!: The Cincinnati Cyclones won more games than ever prior to the All-Star break. The club was 21-13-3 at the All-Star break in 2006-07. Cincinnati was 26-8-3 this year. By February 4 of last season, the club already registered 16 losses.
GREAT (RE)CALL: The Cyclones have had fifteen players appear in games with American Hockey League teams this season. Currently, eight players who have appeared in Cincinnati are on loan or recall to the AHL. The fifteen total players have appeared in 162 AHL games this season, netting twelve goals and adding 24 assists for 36 points.
MAGIC NUMBER: The Cyclones 'magic number' to clinching a playoff berth is 30. Any point gained in the standings by Cincinnati, or lost by Trenton reduces this number. Last season, the Cyclones clinched a playoff berth on March 31.
CYCLONES COACHES SHOW: The Cyclones Coaches Show airs every Monday from Jefferson Hall at Newport on the Levee from 7-8pm. The show, features Head Coach Chuck Weber and two players visit. This week, Cyclones forward Matt Syroczynski and defenseman Trevor Wolfe are the guests.
