February 4, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Devils welcomed two opponents to Sovereign Bank Arena this past weekend, earning a split against the top two teams in the North Division. The Devils made it two straight weekend-opening wins against Elmira, as they defeated the Jackals on Friday night. The next evening, Trenton dropped a heartbreaker to the first place Cincinnati Cyclones. The Devils hit the road for the first time in three weeks this weekend, traveling to take on Cincinnati, Dayton, and Johnstown in a trio of games against division rivals. The Devils are 18-23-1-3, and remain in fifth place in the North Division with 40 points.
JACKED UP: Bill LeClerc's first ECHL goal gave the Devils a thrilling 4-3 overtime win against the Jackals on Saturday. The defenseman, who sniped the puck past Jackals goaltender Joel Martin from the bottom dot, also recorded an assist on Tony Zancanaro's tying goal late in the third period. It was LeClerc's first career multi-point game. Trevor Kell and Stephen Wood also netted goals in the victory. After going winless in their first five contests of the season against the Jackals, the Devils have now defeated Elmira each of their last two meetings. The teams combined for 106 penalty minutes in the contest, making it Trenton's most penalized game of the season. Dave Caruso earned the win in net, turning away 28 Elmira shots for his thirteenth victory of the campaign.
SPUN BY CINCI: On Saturday, the Devils fought valiantly against the North Division leading Cyclones. However, a goal by Barret Ehgoetz with three minutes remaining in the third period gave Cincinnati a 2-1 victory. Trevor Kell scored his 10th goal of the season in the first period off an assist by Matt Radoslovich. The Cyclones would even the game at 1-1 when Thomas Beauregard scored 3:28 into the second period. That score would hold until Ehgoetz's game-winner. Dave Caruso made 29 saves in the loss.
