Columbia Inferno News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2008)- The Columbia Inferno (17-18-4-6, 44 points) lost their third consecutive game when they dropped to the Pensacola Ice Pilots (11-30-1-3, 26 points) 2-1 during a Monday matinee.

Ice Pilots forward Bryan Esner scored the game's first goal at 12:17 of the first period to give Pensacola a 1-0 lead, beating Inferno goalie Jeff Jakaitis. Esner's 14th of the year came on assists from defenseman Phil Youngclaus and forward Michael Cohen. The Inferno didn't let that lead last long, however, as Owen Fussey tied the game just 17 seconds later. The winger's 12th of the year found its way to the back of the net past goalie Mike Brodeur. Brad Ralph and Jeff Miles had the assists.

The game would remain tied until Esner scored the game winner at 2:04 of the second period, with assists to J.R. Bria and Jean-Claude Sawyer. The Inferno would continue to lob shots at Brodeur, but he was equal to the task, stopping all 10 shots the Inferno mustered in the final frames.

Jakaitis finished with 24 saves on 26 shots, while Brodeur stopped 19 of 20.

The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 8 to host the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05 p.m.
