Dayton Bombers News Release

READY, AIM, SHOOT-OUT: The Bombers played in their sixth shootout of the season Saturday night as they faced the Johnstown Chiefs on the road. Taking a 0-0 game into the third period Brad Bonello opened up scoring for the Bombers a mere 41 seconds into the period to take the lead. In just as dramatic fashion, however, Johnstown's Randy Rowe put the puck past Bombers goalie Jeremy Duchesne with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Neither team managed to score during overtime and the game continued to a shootout. The Bombers took a 2-0 early lead in the shootout when Mike Berry and Matt Beaudoin scored past Chiefs netminder Ryan Nie but the Chiefs answered back, forcing extra shooters onto the ice. It was Mike Sgroi's shot in the seventh round of the shootout that snuck past Duchesne to give the Chiefs the victory.

CHECKED BY CHARLOTTE: The Charlotte Checkers swept the Bombers last week and kept them winless against the South Division with a 4-1 victory in the Nutter Center on Tuesday night and a 5-2 defeat on Friday night. Rookie Alex Greig picked up his first professional goal on Tuesday, while Mike Walsh and Masahito Nishiwaki scored for Dayton on Friday night. Both Rejean Beauchemin and Jeremy Duchesne saw action against the Checkers but neither could come away with the victory. The Bombers penalty killing unit continued to shine as they held the Checkers to just one power play goal on six opportunities.

MOVING ON: The Bombers host three games in three days this weekend as the Mississippi Sea Wolves and Trenton Devils come to town. This weekend will be the first meeting between the Sea Wolves and Bombers in more than two years as they face each other on Friday and Sunday. The Bombers look to earn their first win against a South Division team and are 5-1-2 against Mississippi all-time. Dayton is 3-2-0-1 against Trenton, who visits on Saturday, and will not face them again until March.

WELL, HELLO: The Bombers welcome Scott Kelman and Corey LeClair to the lineup from the Phoenix Roadrunners in exchange for defenseman Ryan Reid. Kelman, a veteran center, has nearly 100 games played in the American Hockey League and currently has 25 points (7g,18a) this season. LeClair returns to Dayton after spending the 2006-07 season in a Bombers uniform. The defenseman had 2 goals and 13 assists this season with Phoenix.

TOTAL RECALL: All-Star center Yannick Tifu has been loaned to the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans. This is the second call-up for the Brossard, Quebec native this season. Tifu previously spent nine games with the Albany River Rats where he picked up two goals and three assists. The Americans are the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers.

PRESIDENT'S DAY CANCELLED: The Bombers have rescheduled their Monday, February 18 contest against the Wheeling Nailers for Wednesday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nutter Center. It will be the final meeting between the two teams in Dayton, although one game remains in Wheeling on April 2. Fans can call the Bombers office for ticket exchange information.

LEADERS OF THE PACK: The ECHL stat boards read like a Dayton Bombers laundry list. Yannick Tifu is 2nd in points (54), 2nd in assists (41), 3rd in power play assists (19) and second in power play points (27). Matt Beaudoin is 6th in points (50), 3rd in goals (26), 5th in power play goals (11) and 3rd in power play points (26). Amongst rookies Beaudoin is 2nd in points, 1st in goals, power play goals and power play points and is tied for 1st in game winning goals (5). Greg Labenski ranks in the top 20 defensemen in scoring (24 points) while Jeremy Duchesne is in the top 20 goaltenders with a 2.79 GAA.

BERRY IN THE CLUTCH: Mike Berry is 3/5 in the shootout this season for Dayton, leading the team with a 60% average. The Bombers are shooting just over 25% overall in shootouts (10/39).

REBOUND: The Bombers scored back-to-back goals in 14 seconds last week, the fastest of any two goals this season. The fastest three goals of the season were scored just 1:03 apart on January 11.

FIRING SQUAD: Dayton netminder Rejean Beauchemin has been subjected to 40 or more shots 4 times this season - three of which were against Reading! He's 1-1-1-1 when facing 40 or more shots. The Royals fired a season high 51 shots at Beauchemin in the Bombers 5-4 overtime loss on December 1.

MILE MARKER: Rookie forward and American Conference All-Star Matt Beaudoin tallied his 50th point of the season on Friday with an assist to Masahito Nishiwaki. Beaudoin is the first Bombers rookie since the 2002-03 season to reach the 50 point plateau and was the first rookie in the league to reach the mark this season.
