CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers have been busy on the ice this season but in February, the team will be just as busy off the ice. Players, coaches and front office staff will make their presence felt in the Charlotte community during the entire month. Last month, the team awarded Brandon Cullen for being the Checkers community player for the month of January.

Feb. 5: The Checkmates will appear at Presbyterian Hemby Hospital from 2-3 p.m. to deliver teddy bears to children. The media are welcome to attend this event.

Feb. 13: Checkers head coach and general manager, Derek Wilkinson, will appear at Beef O' Brady's in Baxter Village in Fort Mill, S.C. for Coaches Corner at 7 p.m. Fans are invited to ask coach Wilkinson questions in an open microphone format.

Feb. 13: Checkers players and Checkmates will become guest bartenders at Cans Bar & Cantina at 7 p.m. The proceeds to this event will go to benefit Alzheimer's Association.

Feb. 14: Checkers mascot, Chubby will appear at the main office of Duke Energy to promote the Share the Warmth program. This will be a precursor to the Share the Warmth Night on Feb. 23 as the Checkers battle the Florida Everblades.

Feb. 22: Checkers players and staff will be on hand at Hooters located on South Blvd. The event will take place at 7 p.m. during happy hour. Players will be available for photos and autographs.

Feb. 25: Players to make an appearance at Barringer Academic Center. They will be on hand to explain the importance of each piece of protective hockey equipment, proper nutrition and how to be a good leader in the community.

Feb. 28: The Charlotte Checkers will host a viewing party at Alley Cat bar at 7 p.m. The team will battle the Mississippi Sea Wolves and fans can watch the game live alongside Checkers staff.

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Feb. 7 against the South Carolina Stingrays. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $175.
