
Coyotes Acquire Schneider From Vancouver In Exchange For Zimmerman

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Mathieu Schneider from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Sean Zimmerman and a conditional draft choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Schneider, 40, has recorded 2-3-5 and 12 penalty minutes (PIM) in 17 games with the Canucks this season. Schneider is in his 21st NHL season and has appeared in 1,281 career games with Montreal, the New York Islanders, Toronto, the New York Rangers, Los Angeles, Detroit, Anaheim, Atlanta and Vancouver. He has registered 223-516-739 and 1,241 PIM, along with 100 career power play goals.
In addition, Schneider has played in 111 career NHL playoff games, collecting 10-43-53 and 155 PIM. He was a member of the 1993 Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens and is a two-time NHL All-Star (1996, 2003). In 2005, the native of New York, NY became just the 11th American-born defenseman to appear in 1,000 NHL games and in 2007 became the sixth American-born defenseman to reach 200 NHL goals. He has represented the United States at the 1998 and 2006 Winter Olympics, the 1996 World Cup and the 1988 World Junior Championship.
The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Schneider has registered six 50-point seasons in the NHL and has eclipsed the 10-goal mark 13 times. He was originally selected by Montreal in the third round (44th overall) of the 1987 Entry Draft.
Zimmerman, 22, has appeared in 54 games with San Antonio (AHL) this season, recording 2-5-7 and 75 PIM. In 163 career AHL games with Albany, Lowell and San Antonio, Zimmerman has collected 4-11-15 and 158 PIM.
