Norfolk Admirals News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Penn. - Goals by Adam Hall and Blair Jones would not be enough as the Norfolk Admirals (33-27-3-1) fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (31-27-1-2) 4-2 on Wednesday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The third-place Admirals will return to Scope on Friday and Saturday for a pair of critical East Division games against the second-place Albany River Rats.
The Penguins took a 1-0 lead 5:50 into the game. A Nick Johnson shot from the right circle went wide and ended up in the left corner. Alex Grant found the rebound at the bottom of the left circle and spun around for a shot that banked off goaltender Dustin Tokarski into the net.
The Admirals tied the game at 1-1 midway through the first period. Dana Tyrell sent a pass from the right corner toward the goalmouth where Ryan Craig sent a shot into Penguins goaltender John Curry. The rebound dropped into the crease and Adam Hall poked it over the goal line at 9:25 for his 11th goal of the season.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a 2-1 lead with a power play goal midway through the second stanza. Tim Wallace found a loose puck in the crease and poked it into the net at 8:22.
Norfolk responded less than two minutes later. Zach Tarkir sent a pass from the right half wall to Blair Jones in the slot. Jones fired a wrist shot over the glove of Curry and into the net at 10:07 for his eighth goal of the season.
The Penguins took a 3-2 lead 8:06 into the third period. Chris Lee recovered a blocked shot in the left faceoff circle and fed a pass to Konstantin Pushkarev at the bottom of the right circle. Pushkarev one-timed the pass into the net past the left leg of Tokarski.
Dustin Jeffrey sealed the victory for the home team by scoring into the empty net with four seconds remaining in regulation.
Dustin Tokarski (33 shots, 30 saves) took the loss. John Curry (29 shots, 27 saves) earned the win.
Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-3.
