Phantoms Goalie John Grahame Signs With NHL's Colorado Avalanche

GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers announced today that goaltender John Grahame has signed an NHL contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Adirondack also announced defenseman Joey Mormina was returned from his NHL call up and that goaltender Jeremy Duchesne has been added to the roster, reassigned by Philadelphia from the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.

Grahame, 34, played in 12 games for the Phantoms, posting a 2-10-0 record with a 2.84 goals-against average and a 0.896 save percentage. The Denver, Colorado native initially signed a PTO with Adirondack on December 13th and made his Phantoms debut on December 18th at the Glens Falls Civic Center vs. Hamilton. Originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 9th round (229th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Grahame won the 1999 Calder Cup championship with the Providence Bruins and the 2004 Stanley Cup championship with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Grahame signed an NHL contract with Colorado Wednesday and was then assigned to the Lake Erie Monsters, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate.

Duchesne, 23, started the season with Adirondack and dressed as the backup goalie in the Phantoms season opener on October 3rd against the Worcester Sharks. The Silver Spring, Maryland native was then reassigned to the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings where he has posted a 9-4-5 record in 19 games played, with a 3.20 goals-against average and a 0.904 save percentage and one shutout. Duchesne was originally drafted by the Flyers in the 4th round (119th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has played in two career AHL games with the Phantoms during the 2007-08 season.

Mormina, 27, returns to the Phantoms after being called up by the Flyers on February 25th. The Montreal, Quebec native practiced Philadelphia for five straight days, but did not dress in the Flyers' first game back from the Olympic Break on Tuesday night in Tampa Bay. Mormina leads all Adirondack defenseman in scoring this season with 17 points (4 goals, 13 assists) and has 65 penalty minutes in 57 games played this year. Originally drafted by Philadelphia in the 6th round (193rd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Mormina 327 career AHL games and made his NHL debut with Carolina Hurricanes on February 14, 2008 vs. Pittsburgh.

The Phantoms are in action on Wednesday, March 3rd as they travel to Ontario for a 7:30 pm face off with the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum. Adirondack's next home game is on Friday, March 5th at 7:30 pm against the Rochester Americans at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Friday night is Phantoms Youth Hockey Jersey Night, where the first 1,000 kids age 14 and under will receive a free Phantoms hockey jersey courtesy of the Glens Falls Hospital Rehabilitation Center.
