Chicago Wolves News Release
TORONTO---The Chicago Wolves used a three-goal second period and a perfect 19-save performance by goaltender Drew MacIntyre to roll past the Toronto Marlies, 3-0, at Ricoh Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon.
The shutout was the second of the season for MacIntyre (17-13-1) and the fourth by a Chicago netminder this year.
Forwards Kevin Doell (G, A) and Andrew Kozek (G, A) and defenseman Arturs Kulda supplied the offense for Chicago (39-18-1-4), which increased its hold on first place in the West Division to a six-point lead on the second-place Rockford IceHogs. Rockford will have a chance to narrow that deficit to four points when they take on the Lake Erie Monsters tonight at 7 p.m.
"We played the way you should play on the road," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "We moved the puck and played our system to a tee. I think we only gave up one odd-man chance the whole game."
After 30:24 of scoreless hockey, Doell gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead. He and Kulda crashed the net and Kulda pushed a backhanded attempt at Toronto goaltender James Reimer as he flew by. Doell snapped up the rebound and deposited it in the empty right side of the net.
Chicago made its lead two with a rocket from the blue line by Kulda, that beat Reimer, top shelf at 12:44 of the second frame.
The Wolves pulled ahead, 3-0, with 2:02 remaining in the second period. Doell fired a shot at Reimer, collected his own rebound and threw it back on net where it bounced off the goaltender and up into the air for Kozek to knock in for the goal.
Reimer (8-4-1) posted 32 saves on 35 shots in the losing effort for Toronto (24-29-5-5).
The Wolves continue their road swing through Canada with a visit to Copps Coliseum to take on the Western-Conference leading Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
