Hurricanes Recall Zach Boychuk And Jay Harrison

RALEIGH, NC- Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Zach Boychuk and defenseman Jay Harrison from Albany of the American Hockey League (AHL). Both players will be available for the Hurricanes' game on Thursday at the RBC Center against the Ottawa Senators.

This marks the sixth NHL recall of 2009-10 for Boychuk, 20, who has earned one goal and three assists in 12 games with the Hurricanes this season. He scored his first career NHL goal on February 13 against the New Jersey Devils. The Airdrie, Alb., native ranks second among River Rats skaters this season with 15 goals and 36 points. Drafted in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Boychuk totaled 110 goals and 161 assists (271 points) in 237 career Western Hockey League (WHL) games for Lethridge.

Harrison, 27, begins his second recall of the season, having totaled one goal and four assists in 18 games played with the Hurricanes in 2009-10. The Oshawa, Ont., native has earned 14 points (2g, 12a) and a plus-8 plus/minus rating in 32 AHL games this season with Albany. The Hurricanes signed Harrison (6'4", 211 lbs.) as a free agent on July 9, 2009. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round, 82nd overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
