Capitals Recall John Carlson

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman John Carlson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Carlson, is a first-year pro who stands 6'3", 208 pounds. The Natick, Mass., native is second among AHL defensemen in points per game (0.81) and is second in the league (first among rookies) with a +37 rating. He is tied for sixth among AHL defensemen with 39 points (four goals, 35 assists) in 48 games.

Carlson has played seven games for the Capitals this season, averaging 14:53 of ice time with a +6 rating. He recorded his first NHL point with an assist in a 6-3 win at Pittsburgh on Jan. 21. The Capitals selected Carlson in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft with the 27th overall selection. Carlson, who wears No. 74 with Washington, is eligible to play in tonight's game at Buffalo.
