Chihuahuas Take a Bite out of the Missions

August 13, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - San Antonio Missions News Release

EL PASO - The Chihuahuas scored in each of the first four innings Monday night en route to a 9-5 win over the Missions, which extended San Antonio's longest losing streak of the season to five games.

Aaron Wilkerson made the start but was tagged for five runs in three innings before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Wilkerson's outing continued a tough stretch for Missions starting pitchers, who have recorded an 11.45 ERA over the last eight games.

Former Mission Michael Gettys clubbed a pair of homeruns and drove in three to lead a 13-hit attack for El Paso.

Nate Orf smashed a three-run blast to highlight a four run fifth inning that got the Missions to within 7-5, but the Chihuahuas tacked on runs in the sixth and eighth innings before Tyler Higgins retired San Antonio in order in the ninth inning to close out the game.

David Freitas collected two more hits, including a homerun. He has recorded multiple hits in seven of his last eight games.

The Missions loss, coupled with Round Rock's win over Albuquerque, trimmed San Antonio's Pacific Southern Division lead to just a 1/2-game over the Express.
