Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers and the Augusta Lynx needed the ninth round of a shootout to decide the game tonight and it was Augusta on the winning end by a score of 2-1

In the first period, the only goal came from the Lynx after Aaron Slattengren found the loose puck while stationed in front of the Checkers net and lifted it over the shoulder of Charlotte goalie, Matt Zaba at 15:51.

The middle stanza brought the tying goal for the Checkers as Kenton Smith fired a shot through traffic on the power play and it found its way past Lynx netminder, J. P. Levasseur at 3:57 locking the game at 1-1.

Neither team was able to score in the third period nor overtime so the game moved to a shootout. In the ninth round of the shootout, Bobby Bolt squeeked a shot between the legs of Zaba for a 2-1 victory.

Notes: Zaba turned aside 36 shots of 37 while Levasseur made 24 save on 25 shots...Charlotte scored once on eight power play attempts and Augusta went scoreless in six tries.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on Dec. 27 against the Augusta Lynx. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date.
