Victoria, BC, Canada - Ash Goldie contributed a hat trick while Victoria's other ECHL all-star representative, goaltender Julien Ellis, recorded 26 saves as the Salmon Kings swept past Alaska 8-1 Friday night in front of 5,264.

Playing with just 12 skaters at its disposal, Alaska quickly fell behind in the first period, as Goldie scored a power play goal for Victoria at the 8:31 mark and again at even strength three minutes later. The Aces drew within 2-1 on a tip-in by Olivier Filion with 4:53 left in the period, assisted by Lee Green, his first point of the season, and rookie Tim Spencer, who had scored twice in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout win.

The score remained 2-1 until eight minutes remained in the second period, when the Salmon Kings broke the contest open with three goals in a span of 2:47. Goldie completed his hat trick with a laser from the right circle that sailed just underneath the crossbar at 12:24. Each team proceeded to take a penalty, and skating four-on-four, Victoria struck twice in 17 seconds, as captain Kiel McLeod and former captain Ryan Wade each scored from point blank range against Alaska starter Derek Gustafson, leaving the score 5-1 with 4:49 left in the frame.

That flurry by the Salmon Kings seemed to drain whatever energy reserves the Aces might have had, and with Victoria continuing to press, the floodgates opened in the third period. Darryl Lloyd scored twice and Ash Goldie's older brother, Wes, converted a power play goal with 1:45 left in regulation to account for the final margin. The loss marked just the second for Alaska in its 18 regular season games played on Canadian soil, and the eight goals marked a season-high against the Aces. The Salmon Kings out-shot Alaska 15-7 over the final 20 minutes and their game total of 40 shots matched the season-high against the visitors.

The Aces (15-9-2) play their final game before the Christmas holiday tomorrow night in the rubber match against the Salmon Kings at 6:05 p.m. ADT. Victoria's win assured the hosts of retaining the West Division lead (currently five points) this weekend. After the break, Alaska opens an eight-game homestand December 28 against Utah in the first meeting between the two clubs this season. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
