Salmon Kings Named National Conference All Star Starters

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that both goaltender Julien Ellis and forward Ash Goldie have been named as starters to the ECHL's National Conference All Star Team.

"We are very happy for, and proud of Julien and Ash for being named as starters for the National Conference," Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Dan Belisle said. "They have proven themselves to be elite players in this league, and are outstanding representatives for the Victoria Salmon Kings."

Ellis has played in 13 games for the Salmon Kings this season. He has accumulated a 9-2-0-1 record with a 2.89 goals against average, a 0.920 save percentage and has had one shutout.

The Sorel, QC native is in his second season with the Salmon Kings and presently sits third in the National Conference in save percentage, fourth in the conference in goals against average and is tied for second in the conference in wins.

Ellis was the Salmon Kings' selection to the 2006-07 ECHL All Star Game, but did not participate as he was promoted to the AHL's Manitoba Moose. He was also a sixth round selection (#189 overall) of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2004 NHL entry draft. He is currently under contract to the Canucks.

The 21-year-old has been promoted twice this season to the Manitoba. He came in relief in one game stopping 10 of 11 shots in two periods of play.

Goldie leads the Salmon Kings in both goals (15) and points (23) this season. He is currently tied for the National Conference's lead in goals, tied for the ECHL lead in power play goals (9) and is tied for fifth in the ECHL for game winning goals (3).

For the week of October 29th thru November 4th, Goldie was named the ECHL's In Glas Co Player of the Week. During that span of time he collected seven goals and two assists, and helped lead the Salmon Kings to a three game sweep of the Bakersfield Condors.

This is the London, ON native's third season in the ECHL, and his second selection to the all star team. He was selected his first year in the league, but was unable to participate in the game due to injury. Previously, he spent two season's with the Long Beach Ice Dogs. In his two years in Long Beach he accumulated 111 points (61g- 50a) in 113 games.

The Salmon Kings continue their three game set with the Alaska Aces tonight at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre at 7:05 p.m. Game three goes tomorrow evening also at 7:05 p.m. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
