Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (December 21, 2007) - Dave Caruso led the Devils with 23 big saves on 24 shots, shutting out the Dayton Bombers after an early goal and allowing the Devils to gain momentum towards a 4-1 win. Colin Pepperall netted the game-winner, sending the Devils into a three-way tie for fifth place in the North Division.
Pepperall's tally came halfway through the third period, when the veteran center split two Dayton defenders and picked up a loose puck in the slot, firing it home to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Pepperall's tally gives him three goals through seven games.
The Devils got out to a quick start, immediately answering Dayton's six scoring chances. Even though Trenton had a spark out of the gate, Bombers' netminder Jeremey Duchesne shut down two power play opportunities.
Despite the Devils dominating a majority of the opening period, Dayton lit the lamp first, on a score by Brad Bonello 16:39 in. Assisting the play were Greg Labenski and Taylor Christie.
Trevor Kell (8 goals, 8 assists), assisted by Ryan Gunderson and Colin Pepperall, gave the Devils the equalizer by capitalizing on a 5 on 3 power play. The forward would tally his sixth goal in three games 12:21 into the second period when he swatted in a one-timer from Pepperall.
The Bombers opted for the extra attacker nearing the 18 minute mark, allowing Tony Zancanaro and Eric Castonguay to snatch two empty net goals, surging the Devils to a 4-1 lead over the Bombers.
Caruso would gain his eighth win of the season, as the Devils climbed into a three-way tie for fifth place in their division, capitalizing on losses by Johnstown and Wheeling.
The Trenton Devils go on their holiday break before returning to Sovereign Bank Arena to face the Johnstown Chiefs Thursday, December 27th at 7:00pm. Tune into WBCB 1490 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
