Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - Chris Cava's fourth goal of the season gave the Mississippi Sea Wolves a 4-3 overtime win over the Texas Wildcatters as Mississippi improved it's record to 9-16-1-1.
Texas got on the board early in the first period when Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey misplayed the puck, Wildcatters forward Moises Gutierrez fired a shot that an out-of-position Cey stopped, but Colin Nicholson was there to put in the rebound at the 1:22 mark.
The Sea Wolves got on the board five minutes into the second period when Jason Tejchma tipped Ryan Menei's shot past Texas goaltender Peter Aubry. Mississippi took the lead when Travis Lisabeth banged home the rebound of Tejchma's shot at 10:21 of the second.
The Wildcatters would draw even when Danick Bouchard rushed coast-to-coast down the right wing and scored shorthanded at 7:17 of the third period, but Mississippi answered back with a power-play goal when Mark Rooneem picked up the rebound of Gio Flamminio's shot 8:35. Texas would draw even again when Mark Fulton scored his sixth goal of the season at 12:19 of the third period.
The game remained tied into overtime, where Texas' Ross Carlson took a holding penalty at 2:39, the Sea Wolves capitalized when an errant clearing attempt by the Wildcatters landed on Chris Cava's tape, and he ripped a high shot from the blueline past Aubry for the game-winner at 3:02 of overtime.
The Sea Wolves were 2-for-5 on the power play, and Morgan Cey made 50 saves to earn the win.
