Checkers close out heavy load with win

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers closed out a busy stretch of seven games in 10 days with a 6-4 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday. The Checkers finished the stretch with a record of 4-3-0 and picked up the four wins over South Divisional opponents Gwinnett (2) and South Carolina (2). The Checkers will get a much needed rest with their next game not until Friday. The Checkers will host Pensacola on Friday and Augusta on Saturday.

Tuesday, November 21, 2006 @ Gwinnett, W, 6-3

The Charlotte Checkers lost one of their top players Tuesday, but it didn't seem to matter on this night. Adam Nightingale, Dan Murphy and Mike Ouellette scored their first goals of the season, and goalie Chris Holt sparkled with 33 saves to lead Charlotte to a 6-3 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators Tuesday night in Duluth, Georgia.

Earlier in the day the New York Rangers traded Jakub Petruzalek to the Carolina Hurricanes organization. Patruzalek started the season in Charlotte in the ECHL and was a dangerous scorer for the Checkers in the first 12 games of the season.

Thursday, November 23, 2006 @ Gwinnett, L, 2-8

The Charlotte Checkers had everything go wrong Thanksgiving night in Gwinnett as they were upended by the Gladiators 8-2 in front of 5,221 fans at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. With the score tied at 2-2 midway through the first period, the Gladiators reeled off six straight goals to win the contest going away. Colton Fretter scored twice for Gwinnett while Gladiators goalie David Caruso made 21 saves to earn his fourth win of the season against only one loss.

Friday, November 24, 2006 vs. Florida, L, 1-7

The Charlotte Checkers were defeated 7-1 by the top-ranked Florida Everblades Friday night in front of 7,133 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Blake Bellefeuille scored the only goal for the Checkers and although he took the loss, Chris Holt stopped 31 shots on goal.

Sunday, November 26, 2006 vs. South Carolina, W, 6-4

After losing their past two games, the Charlotte Checkers bounced back to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays 6-4 Sunday afternoon at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in front of 3,698 fans. Bruce Graham had a stellar game scoring two goals and earning two assists on the afternoon.

CHECKERS PLAYERS TO SERVE AS GUEST BARTENDERS

TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE ROSS MINOR MEDICAL FUND

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today that their players will serve as guest bartenders at Encore Bistro and Bar in Blakeney from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, November 27 to raise money for the Ross Minor Medical Fund.

This past June, Ross, 8, and his brother Ryan, 10, were both shot by their father who then turned the gun on himself. Ryan died from the gun shot while Ross survived, but lost 100% of his vision.

All cash tips received at the bar and one dollar from every alcoholic beverage sold in the restaurant from 7:00 to 9:00 pm will be donated to the Ross Minor Medical Fund. In addition to the tips received, the Checkers will raffle off a game-worn jersey, for $5 per ticket, with all the money going to the fund.
