Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones play host to a pair of games this week, when Wheeling rolls into town on Friday night (Dec. 1) at 7:30pm. Then, on Saturday night (Dec. 2), the Dayton Bombers come to U.S. Bank Arena for a 7:30pm showdown.
REALITY TV STARS: Friday night (Dec. 1), 'Reality TV Stars' visit U.S. Bank Arena for the
7:30pm tilt versus Wheeling. Numerous reality TV celebrities will be on hand and will be available for fans at a pregame VIP Dinner. Also, the Cyclones will award a suite to the winner of the season long 'Suite Survivor' competition.
THE REALITY STARS: The group of reality TV stars scheduled to appear (this list could change) includes: Megan Linz (winner of the Amazing Race 8), Andrew Hyde (Amazing Race 3), Sean Vaughn and Ray and Deana (Amazing Race 7), Rodger Bingham (Survivor: Australian Outback), Misty Giles, Bruce Kanegai, Courtney Merit and Bobby Mason (Survivor: Exile Island), Ryan Opray (Survivor: Pearl Islands), Jeff Wilson (Survivor: Palau), Cindy Hall (Survivor: Guatemala), Ken Stafford (Survivor:Thailand), Brook Geraghty (Survivor: Vanuatu), Danielle Reyes (Big Brother 3 and Big Brother All Stars), Elizabeth Costello (Fear Factor), Susan Santa Cruz and Christina Bounds (Starting Over) and Ken Callen (The Real Gilligan's Island). In addition to the 20 scheduled, there might be one or more 'unannounced' guests that have been on recent (or perhaps, current) shows.
GOODBYE NO. 21: Prior to Saturday's game (Dec. 2) against Dayton, the Cyclones will retire the jersey of former Cincinnati great Gilbert Dionne. One of the most prolific scoring players to wear a Cyclones jersey, Dionne will be honored in a special pregame ceremony. Gilbert amassed 134 goals and 202 assists for 336 points in 313 games during his four years in Cincinnati. The most impressive night would have been the 1999 All-Star Game played in Cincinnati, when Dionne scored three goals and added a pair of assists for five points and was named the MVP of the game.
CHIT, CHAT AND CHOW: Both games this weekend have the ability for fans to have dinner with the special guests. It is part of the 'Dinner With The Celebrities' series being offered by the club this season. In addition to these games--there are still opportunities for fans to have dinner with UFC champion Rich Franklin on January 5 and with NASCAR's Denny Hamlin on January 6.
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cyclones won a pair of game during the Thanksgiving week, dropping North Division leader Toledo by a 2-1 count on Wednesday night (Nov. 22). Erik Johnson scored his first goal as a Cyclone in the first period and Cory Urquhart sealed the triumph with his tenth goal in the second period. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 33 shots and kept the Storm off the board for the final 58 minutes. Saturday night (Nov. 25), the Cyclones netted a pair of third period goals to rally for a 3-2 win at Dayton. Barret Ehgoetz' goal with 1:08 remaining proved to be the difference. Torry Gajda and Jason Deitsch scored the other goals. Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 29 shots in the victory.
TOUGH ROAD TO HOE: The Cyclones are 7-8-0 on the season. The eight losses have come to six teams with winning records and those teams currently have a composite record of 66-45-1 (.593). Five of those losses have come to teams with winning percentage of greater than .640. Wheeling is the only team with a sub-.500 record with wins against Cincinnati.
SATURDAY NIGHTS ARE FOR COMEBACKS: Saturday night (Nov. 25), the Cyclones trailed Dayton, 2-1, entering the third period before Jason Deitsch and Barret Ehgoetz scored third period goals to rally Cincinnati into a 3-2 win. Last Saturday night (Nov. 18), Cincinnati trailed Wheeling, 1-0, entering the third period before Cory Urquhart and Matt Macdonald scored goals to pull out the 2-1 victory. Three times this season the Cyclones have overcome a deficit to claim a win (Johnstown on Oct. 28 was the other win).
HE'S ONLY AT HOME WHEN HE'S ON THE ROAD...: Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris has been the team's Road Warrior this season. Grumet-Morris has started the last four road games and has played all but one game away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. Dov ranks eighth in the ECHL with a 2.39 goals against average and a 4-4 record. His .921 save percentage is just outside the league's top five (Adam Berkhoel of Dayton is fifth at .927).
BALANCE: In the two wins last week vs. Dayton and Toledo, no player collected more than two points and no one scored more than a single goal. Nine different Cyclones were involved in the scoring in these games.
NATURAL BORN KILLERS: The Cyclones rank second in the ECHL in penalty killing at 88.2 percent. Cincinnati has eliminated 16 consecutive man-disadvantage situations faced since the second period of Nov. 19's game. The Cyclones have limited the opposition to just 15 power play goals in 127 opportunities.
MAJOR MAYHEM: The Cyclones rank eighth in the ECHL in penalty minutes per game at 27.3. The team has been involved in 20 fights this season, second-most in the league. Nine of those major penalties have been called in games played at U.S. Bank Arena.
SHUTDOWN: The Cyclones have allowed just seven third period goals this season, the fewest allowed by any ECHL team.
DICKMANN'S MONDAY NIGHT!: On Mondays, Head Coach Chuck Weber and selected players will be at at Dickmann's Sports Cafe (479 Orphanage Rd., Ft. Wright, KY) from 7-8pm. Cory Urquhart and Matt Macdonald will be the guests tonight.
