Record Starts Allow Stockton, Texas To Keep Pace With Wranglers
November 27, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
Las Vegas leads the ECHL for another week after extending its winning
streak to five games and improving to 9-1-7 with 25 points. The Wranglers
are one point ahead of Pacific Division rival Stockton (10-4-1) and West
Division leader Idaho (11-3-2) and South Division leader Texas (11-2-2).
The Wranglers, who have registered a point in every game but one, travel to
Idaho for games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Las Vegas is coming off
a record-setting year in 2005-06 when it finished second in the ECHL with
112 points and a 53-13-6 record, tying the league record for second-most
wins and finishing with the third-highest point total in the league's
18-year history.
Winning five consecutive games and four road games in a row for the first
time since its relocation in 2003-04, Texas is one point ahead of Gwinnett
(10-4-3) and two points in front of Florida (11-5-0). The Wildcatters will
travel to Florida for games on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday while Gwinnett
plays at Reading on Wednesday, at Dayton on Friday and at Wheeling on
Saturday and Sunday.
Texas is 7-2-1 on the road and did not win its seventh road game until its
28th road game in 2004-05 when it finished 9-22-5. The Wildcatters, who won
their season opener and their home opener for the first time ever this
season, didn't win their 11th game overall until the 38th game of their
inaugural season when they finished 22-44-6.
The Thunder, which also has a point in all of its games but one, will host
Utah (4-11-3) on Saturday and Sunday. In its inaugural season in 2005-06,
Stockton did not win its 10th game until Mar. 5 and finished at 18-40-14.
Idaho has a six-point lead on Phoenix which is 9-7-0 after finishing
20-47-5 in its inaugural season in 2005-06. The RoadRunners have won a team
record five consecutive home games to improve to 7-3-0 at home where they
were 10-23-3 a year ago.
In the North Division, Trenton has won its last two games and four of its
last five to improve to 9-4-0 and 18 points tied for first place with
Toledo at 9-5-0. The Titans and Storm are one point ahead of Johnstown
which has won four of its last six games. Trenton will visit Johnstown on
Friday before returning home to host Toledo on Saturday and Sunday.
Condors Fourth-Largest Crowd Helps Increase League
Attendance
The fourth-largest crowd in Bakersfield history combined with a sellout in
Charlotte and almost 60,000 for three-game home stands in Gwinnett, South
Carolina and Stockton helped the ECHL raise its average attendance to 4,154
per game.
Bakersfield, which is looking to raise its attendance for the fourth
consecutive year, had 8,743 for its annual "Teddy Bear Toss" game on
Saturday. The Condors average attendance is 6,137 per game which is third
in the league and up 9.5 percent from last season and almost 36 percent
from 2003-04 when they joined as an expansion team.
Stockton welcomed 8,004 on Saturday and moved atop the ECHL with 6,915 per
game, an increase of nine percent from the team's inaugural season when it
led the league with 6,343 per game.
Gwinnett drew 5,107 on Saturday and raised its average to 6,532 per game
which is second in the league and an increase of more than 18 percent from
last season. Dayton is averaging 4,836 per game, an increase of almost 40
percent from a year ago, while Toledo had its third crowd of more than
5,000 on Saturday raising its average to 4,494 per game which is up 13
percent from last season.
South Carolina drew more than 11,000 for its games on Friday and Saturday
while Charlotte had its second sellout of the year with 7,133 for its game
on Friday. Phoenix welcomed a season-high 5,609 on Saturday and Utah had
more than 8,500 for two games to raise its attendance to 4,232 per game
which is up 10 percent from last year.
The league has raised its average attendance each of the last three seasons
and in 2005-06 averaged 4,372 per game, the largest per-game average since
1999-2000, as 13 of the 22 returning teams increased their average
attendance.
