Former Lynx goaltender Hall records first NHL win
November 27, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Former Augusta Lynx goaltender Mike Wall earned his first National Hockey League win Sunday night as the Anaheim Ducks downed the Calgary Flames 5-3.
Wall turned aside 19 shots for the victory in his first NHL start after being recalled from the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates. The Telkwa, BC native posted a 5-1-1 mark to go with a 3.23 GAA in Portland before his recall this weekend.
The 21-year-old Wall becomes the 307th player to play in the NHL after playing in the ECHL and the fourth to play his first NHL game this season, joining former ECHL All-Star goaltender Mike Smith, former Toledo goaltender Joey MacDonald and former Florida center Drew Larman.
Signed as a free agent by Anaheim following a standout junior career with the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips, Wall split time in 2005-06 between Augusta and Portland. While with the Lynx he posted an 8-11-1 mark, recording a shutout along with a 3.81 GAA and .879 save percentage. With Portland last season, Wall was 5-5-0 with one shutout, a 3.38 GAA and .887 save percentage.
Also a familiar name to Lynx fans, rookie Dave McKee served as the backup goaltender in the game for the Ducks. McKee started the season by going 8-2-0 in Augusta with a 3.68 GAA and .899 save percentage before being recalled to Anaheim on November 21.
With the win, Wall becomes only the third goaltender in Ducks history to record a victory in his first pro start, joining Ilya Brzygalov and Martin Gerber. He also becomes the 12th goaltender to appear in a game in Ducks history.
Come see the NHLers of tomorrow as Augusta hosts Pensacola Tuesday and Thursday night followed by the Columbia Inferno this Free Diamond Friday! All games start at 7:35 pm, with tickets available now by calling the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, and at any TicketMaster outlet.
