Sacramento River Cats News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - Starter Travis Banwart and the River Cats bullpen permitted only three runs on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park, helping their team defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers by a score of 4-3.
The River Cats came out swinging, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning on an RBI single from Anthony Aliotti, a bases-loaded walk from Andy Parrino, and a Jemile Weeks run-scoring single through the hole at second base. Sacramento's fourth and final run would come in the top of the fifth when Michael Choice drove in Shane Peterson-who tripled to lead off the inning-with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The story of the game, however, was the Sacramento pitching staff. Banwart limited the Chasers to two runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings en route to a quality start and his eighth win. Southpaw Pedro Figueroa allowed one earned run, but tallied his 10th hold, while Evan Scribner and Brian Gordon slammed the door with scoreless innings for their sixth hold and 15th save, respectively.
Aliotti finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double, while David Freitas reached three times, going 2-for-3 with a run, a walk and a double. Jake Goebbert reached twice, finishing 1-for-3 with a run, a walk and a double.
The loss was charged to lefty Everett Teaford, who gave up all four River Cats runs on eight hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings of work, falling to 4-4 on the year. Center fielder Gorkys Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a walk and two steals, while Chris Getz and Christian Colon each clubbed solo home runs for Omaha.
The River Cats now travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on the I-Cubs in a four-game set. River Cats righty Arnold Leon (3-2, 4.15 ERA) will face Cubs right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm (1-2, 6.75 ERA) at 5:05 p.m. on Monday evening.
The River Cats return home on Friday, Aug. 16 for a five-game set against the Tucson Padres in a homestand that will feature two fireworks shows, Kids Night Out, and a Mario Encarnacion bobblehead giveaway.
