Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- The Reno Aces took a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning, but fell 6-4 to the Memphis Redbirds in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
The loss forced Reno's 11th series split of the season.
Mike Jacobs hit a two-run home run to right in the third, putting the Aces on the board and tying the score at two. An RBI double off the bat of Alfredo Marte later in the frame gave Reno a 3-2 edge.
Both squads cruised through the middle innings, until Memphis exploded offensively for four runs in the eighth. Reliever Kevin Munson struck out Chris Swauger to start the inning, before allowing the next four batters to reach base. Brock Peterson, who was in Reno last month as a Pacific Coast League All-Star, drove in two runs on an RBI single to give the Redbirds the lead.
Two more RBI singles later in the frame extended the Redbirds lead to 6-3.
Tyler Bortnick tripled with one out in the ninth, and came around to score on a groundout by Brad Snyder, but the Aces were unable to produce any more offense. Bortnick finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Munson was charged with a blown save and the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits in 0.1 innings pitched.
D-backs RHP Trevor Cahill threw 7.0 solid innings in continuation of his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment with the Aces. He was charged with two runs on five hits in 7.0 innings, while striking out four and walking three.
Tomorrow, the Aces begin a four-game series against the Nashville Sounds. LHP Tyler Skaggs (6-7, 4.17 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Sounds will counter with LHP Chris Narveson (4-6, 4.99 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Tickets are available for tomorrow's game, and all remaining home games at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
