Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced Friday that OF Joey Butler has been optioned back to the Triple-A Round Rock Express. Butler joins the team today as INF Leury Garcia has been sent to Triple-A Charlotte (Chicago-AL) to complete the trade for OF Alex Rios made earlier this week.
Butler had his contract purchased by the Rangers from the Express last Monday and was in his first major league action. He played in two games for Texas, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, registering his first two major league hits Friday night at Houston. Butler began the season in Round Rock, playing in 97 games with the Express. He hit .290 (101-348) with 10 homers and 44 RBI with the E-Train and earned the Rangers' Player of the Month honor in April.
Garcia had split the season between Triple-A Round Rock and the Rangers, beginning the year with Texas. He was optioned to the Express on June 16, playing in 47 games with the E-Train. Through that span at the Triple-A level, Garcia hit .264 (51-for-193) with four home runs and 19 RBI, including a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth against Memphis (July 25). In 25 games with the Rangers to start 2013, Garcia batted .192 (10-for-52) with a triple, RBI and eight runs scored in his first major league action.
The Express also placed starting pitcher Scott Richmond on the disabled list Sunday and activated right-hander Ryan Rodebaugh from the disabled list.
With these moves, the current Express roster sits at 25 active players with four major league rehabs and two on the disabled list.
The Express and Bees conclude a four-game set Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Jake Brigham (4-3, 4.21 ERA) will take the hill for Round Rock, while Salt Lake will send right-hander Billy Buckner (6-2, 4.05 ERA). Sunday will also be H-E-B Kid's Day at Dell Diamond featuring kiddie train rides, interactive inflatable games, a post-game run of the bases and much more! Along with H-E-B Kid's Day, all kids 12 and under will receive an Express Kids' Backpack, courtesy of A+ Federal Credit Union.
