Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of OF Darnell McDonald from the Iowa Cubs and added him to the major league roster yesterday and optioned C J.C. Boscan to Iowa.

McDonald batted .236 (62-for-263) with 13 doubles, four homers, and 26 RBI in 92 games with Iowa this season. In the last series at Tacoma, he became the first Iowa player on record to hit leadoff homers in consecutive games and batted 10-for-20 (.500) with three doubles, two homers, and five runs scored in his only four games in the leadoff spot for the year. McDonald signed with the Cubs as a minor league free agent in January. The Baltimore Orioles drafted him in the first round (26th overall) in the 1997 draft. He has played 306 career big league games with Baltimore (2004), Minnesota (2007), Cincinnati (2009), Boston (2010-12), and New York Yankees (2012).

The Cubs selected Boscan's contract on Thursday, but he didn't appear in a game in his three days with the big league club. Boscan is batting .253 (49-for-194) with nine doubles, 18 RBI, and 17 runs scored in 62 games with the I-Cubs this season.

The Iowa Cubs have won four straight games and host the Fresno Grizzlies at Principal Park at 1:05 this afternoon. RH Yoanner Negrin (3-5, 4.82) will pitch for the Cubs against LH Mike Kickham (5-7, 4.78) for the Grizzlies. With a win today, the Cubs would match their longest winning streak of the season and complete a sweep of this four-game series. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the pre-game show starting at 12:45.
