RENO, Nev. - The Memphis Redbirds scored seven unanswered runs and held on for an exciting 8-7 victory over the Reno Aces on Saturday night at Aces Ballpark.

Snapping a five-game losing skid on the road with the win, Memphis (58-63) moved to two games behind division-leading Omaha in the PCL American Northern Division. The Redbirds' eight runs were the most scored in a game since the club plated 13 against Nashville on July 7 at AutoZone Park.

Second baseman Kolten Wong drove in a career high four runs while going 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. First baseman Brock Peterson went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Catcher Travis Tartamella went hitless to snap his eight-game hitting streak.

Tyler Lyons improved to 7-2 on the season with his ninth quality start. The left-hander scattered eight hits for four runs (three earned) while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings.

Wong gave the Redbirds a 3-0 advantage in the top of the first with a three-run bomb over the right field wall. After a Greg Garcia leadoff double and Jermaine Curtis walk, Wong blasted a 2-2 offering from Garrett Mock for his 10th blast of the season.

Memphis recorded another three-run rally in the next inning to go up 6-0. With the bases loaded on a base hit and pair of walks, Wong worked a base-loaded walk to bring home Lyons. Peterson followed with a two-run single. Justin Christian added an RBI single to score Chad Huffman in the third to extend the lead to 7-0. Huffman previously reached on a double.

Reno plated three runs in the fourth inning to trail 7-3. Brad Snyder and Tony Campana recorded RBI base knocks in the frame sandwiched around a Alfredo Marte sacrifice fly.

The two teams later traded runs before the Aces plated three runs against Jorge Rondon in the bottom of the eighth to trim the Redbirds' lead to one run. Snyder cut the four-run lead in half by blasting a two-run home run to center. Marte followed by tripling and scoring on a Campana infield groundout.

Rondon gave up three runs in 1 1/3 frames while allowing his only inherited runner to score. Keith Butler worked around a hit and recorded a crucial out while stranding one inherited runner. Fernando Salas stranded two runners in the bottom of the ninth to convert his eighth save.

Mock (8-7) exited after 2 1/3 frames with seven runs on six hits.

Memphis and Reno will conclude their season series at 3:05 pm CT on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Boone Whiting (4-4, 4.34) will start against Diamondbacks rehabbing righty Trevor Cahill (0-2, 8.38).
