Tacoma Rainiers News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Tacoma Rainiers suffered a 12-5 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes in the series finale between the two clubs played at Isotopes Park on Sunday. The defeat left the Rainiers to settle for a four-game series split with Albuquerque.
Tacoma trailed 3-0 through four innings before tallying a pair of runs in the fifth. Albuquerque shortstop Justin Sellers committed a fielding error on Franklin Gutierrez' ground out with the bases loaded, clearing the way for Jason Jaramillo and Joe Dunigan to score.
Another two-run frame allowed the Rainiers to pull ahead 4-3 in the top of the sixth. Outfielder Abraham Almonte singled home Carlos Triunfel to tie the score at 3-3 with two outs, and Gutierrez gave Tacoma the lead with an RBI single that plated Almonte one batter later.
The score did not survive the inning, with the Isotopes pulling ahead again thanks to a three-run home run hit by John Baker with one out in the bottom of the frame.
Albuquerque exploded for six more runs in the seventh. The shortstop Sellers hit a home run, Baker hit an RBI double, Elian Herrera delivered an RBI single and Nick Buss rounded out the barrage with another double that cleared the way for two more Isotopes runs to score.
The Rainiers lineup combined to collect 10 hits, led by Abraham Almonte's 3-for-4 effort. Gutierrez went 2-for-4 and drove in a team-high three runs. Triunfel and first baseman Rich Poythress also turned in two hits each.
Blake Beavan (4-5) was dealt the loss after surrendering six runs on 10 hits over 5.1 innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked one in his 12th start for the Rainiers this season.
The Rainiers (64-58) open a four-game series at Round Rock tomorrow, August 12th. Left-hander James Paxton (7-9, 4.42) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Express right-hander Josh Lindblom (8-2, 2.39). First pitch is scheduled 5:05 p.m.
