Tucson Padres News Release

Keyvius Sampson pitched six innings and allowed only one run in his first game back with Tucson, helping the Padres to a 6-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs Saturday at Kino Stadium. The Padres have won five of their last seven home games.

After Reymond Fuentes made a diving catch in center field to end the top of the first, he scored the Padres first run in the bottom half of the inning, coming home on Dean Anna's sacrifice fly. Fuentes finished the night 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs in his Triple-A debut. The Zephyrs tied the score at one in the fourth before Daniel Robertson put Tucson back in front in the fifth by lining a double past the drawn-in infield to bring around two runs.

New Orleans cut the lead to 3-2 in the seventh on Gil Velazquez's two-out RBI single. The Zephyrs had a chance to score more with runners on the corners, but Tommy Layne came in and threw one pitch to record the final out of the inning. The Padres added two runs in the bottom of the seventh on two-out RBI singles from Cody Decker and Mike Wilson. Scott Moore's pinch-hit home run into the right field bullpen in the eighth extended the lead to 6-2.

Sampson earned his first win at the Triple-A level after scattering three hits, three walks and striking out six in six innings. Sam Dyson lost his first game with New Orleans after yielding four hits, two earned runs and four walks in 5.2 innings of work.
