Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (60-62) suffered their fifth loss in the last six games following their season-high six-game winning streak, and for the second straight night had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth but fell just short as the Sacramento River Cats (67-55) took the finale 4-3. With a Memphis win this afternoon in Reno, the Storm Chasers division lead is just a game with 22 games left.
Omaha starter Everett Teaford had allowed more than three runs in only one of his last 21 starts for the Chasers, but the River Cats capitalized on three walks issued by the left-hander in the second inning as part of a three-run rally, then the game-deciding run was scored in the fifth as Shane Peterson tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a sac fly. Teaford suffered his second straight loss after he had strung together 20 straight starts for Omaha without taking the loss, but the southpaw did strike out six on the day giving him 46 punch-outs in his last 41.1 innings.
Chris Getz led off the game for the Chasers with a solo homer, his first ever in an Omaha uniform and the first leadoff homer for the Storm Chasers since Derrick Robinson pulled off the feat in April of last season. Trailing 4-2 in the seventh, Christian Colon hit a solo shot of his own giving him 11 on the year and tie him with Xavier Nady and Brett Hayes for the most by an Omaha player this season. After Gorkys Hernandez singled in the ninth and stole second, Colon struck out to end the game.
The series defeat at the hands of the River Cats was Omaha's first since the end of June when the Iowa Cubs took three of four at Werner Park, a span of nine series. Anthony Seratelli notched his third multi-hit game in as many days since returning from his ankle injury, and over his last 20 games the utility man is hitting .391 (25-for-64). Johnny Giavotella went 1-for-4 in his first action since July 23.
The Storm Chasers will look to get back on the right track as they welcome the Fresno Grizzlies to town for a four-game series. In the first game tomorrow Omaha will send out left-hander Danny Duffy (3-0, 4.21) to face off with Fresno right-hander Justin Fitzgerald (2-4, 5.40). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
