Capitals Assign Daigneault, Steckel

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Capitals have assigned goaltender Maxime Daigneault to South Carolina of the ECHL and center Dave Steckel to Hershey of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Daigneault and Steckel were both recalled prior to yesterday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. They both dressed for that and today's game against the Atlanta Thrashers, with Steckel making his NHL debut yesterday. Daigneault backed up Olie Kolzig in both games.

Daigneault returns to the South Carolina Stingrays, Washington's ECHL affiliate, where he has a 10-9-4 record this season. Steckel is eighth in scoring on the Hershey Bears, the Capitals' top minor league affiliate, with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 35 games.

The BEARS begin a four-game road trip Friday with a game at Bridgeport against the Sound Tigers. Face-off is at 7:35 p.m., with the pregame show on the BEARS radio network beginning at 7:15 p.m. HERSHEY will next skate at home against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
