
Eveblades shoot down Ice Pilots 6-1

PENSACOLA, FL - The Florida Everblades (20-8-2) used a hat-trick by Paul Cabana and 41 saves by goaltender Phil Osaer to upend the Pensacola Ice Pilots 6-1 on Tuesday night at the Pensacola Civic Center. The win improved Florida's record to 5-0-0 vs. Pensacola this season.
The Everblades opened the game with a pair of goals 1:29 apart midway through the first period. Jon Lehun notched his 10th goal of the season deflecting a point shot by Ernie Hartlieb at 10:56 to give Florida a 1-0 advantage. At 12:25 Cabana picked up his 13th goal of the year banging a shot past Pensacola goaltender Todd Ford for the two goal lead. The Ice Pilots (11-16-3), who were out-shot 13-3 during the first 13 minutes of the game, responded late in the period when Brendan Cook converted a breakaway at 15:52 of the period to cut the Florida lead in half.
The Everblades increased their lead to 4-1 with a pair of power play goals in the second period. Cabana notched his second goal of the game at 5:33 of the frame, and Steve Saviano collected his sixth goal of the season at 9:01 to give Florida the three-goal lead.
In the third period, the Everblades added a short-handed goal by Lehun at 9:51 and an even strength goal by Cabana at 14:09 to help seal the victory. Cabana's hat-trick was his first this season and the fourth for the Everblades.
Osaer raised his record to 8-2-2 with the win, while Ford's record fell to 5-8-2 after allowing six goals on 44 Florida shots.
On the power play, the Everblades closed out the night going 2-for-6, while the Ice Pilots failed to convert on any of their eight chances.
The Everblades return to action on Friday, January 6 when they host the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena. Everblades 2005-06 group tickets and individual game tickets are on sale now!
