Barch Called Up By Stars

GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Grrrowl announced today that forward KRYS BARCH has been recalled to the Iowa Stars of the AHL. Barch began the season in Iowa, but was sent to Greenville on October 26th, and has served as a Grrrowl alternate captain since his arrival.

In 11 games with the Grrrowl, Barch has six goals and one assist for seven points. He's accumulated 68 penalty minutes, with an ECHL-high 39 PIMs coming in one game on Nov. 12. The 25-year-old scored a goal in all four Grrrowl road games he played in, and his six goals on 31 shots equates to 19.4 shooting percentage.

Barch played two games for Iowa at the start of the season, recording nine penalty minutes.

A sixth-year pro, Barch played 55 games in Greenville last year, leading the team in major penalties with 18 and finishing third on the team with 154 PIMs. He had 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists while playing as an alternate captain. The Guelph, Ontario native played nine games for the AHL's Norfolk Admirals last season, recording a goal and 37 PIMs.

Selected by the Washington Capitals in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Draft, Barch played for the OHL's London Knights before turning pro and joining the Portland Pirates at the end of the 1999-00 season. The 6-2, 200-pound forward played parts of four seasons with Portland, and spent time with the ECHL's Richmond Renegades in 2001-02.

The Grrrowl are back in action this weekend, with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Greenville plays in North Charleston against the Stingrays on Jan. 6th, hosts Charlotte on Jan. 7th (Pucks & Parrot Heads night), and visits Columbia on Sunday. For tickets, call 864-233-2525.
