Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans maintained their hold on third place in the North Division while registering a 2-2-0 during the last week of 2005.
The Titans tied their season high for goals in a game this season, tallying five to Toledo's three and defeating the Storm for the first time this year. Scott Bertoli's first hat trick of 2005-06 helped pace the Titans as Dustin Traylen also set team season highs with 51 saves on the evening and 25 in third period.
The following night in Dayton, five different Bombers players lit the lamp to hand the Titans a 5-2 loss. Trenton got their scoring from defensemen Scott Ford and Stephen Wood, but it was off night for the top-ranked penalty kill unit in the ECHL going just 2-for-4.
The Titans got a chance to rebound at home on Friday against the Johnstown Chiefs, but Trenton would once again have trouble trying to solve Jonathan Boutin. The rookie goaltender stopped 42 of 43 shots while Ian Manzano's decisive power play goal in the third gave Johnstown the 2-1 win.
In their last game of the calendar year, it looked as though the Titans would head into 2006 with a loss to the Wheeling Nailers. Down the 2-0 in the third period with under eight minutes remaining, Trenton scored three goals in a span of 4:41 to come away with the 3-2 triumph. Jim Henkel had a hand in all three Titans goals, scoring two and recording an assist.
Trenton will travel all the way to Dayton to face the Bombers on Friday, January 6 before returning to Sovereign Bank Arena for games against the Reading Royals on Saturday, January 7 and the Wheeling Nailers on Sunday, January 8.
