BUFFALO, NY - Behind a strong starting effort from Bowden Francis, the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 7-3 on Thursday night at Sahlen Field to win the third game in a row in this six-game series.

The Herd stranded the bases loaded with nobody out in the first inning, and after going down in order in the second, got to Scranton starter Luis Gil in the third and tagged him with five runs off five hits, including RBI doubles from Gabriel Moreno and Logan Warmoth, to chase him from the game after 2.2 innings of work.

Francis, meanwhile, cruised through six scoreless innings allowing just four baserunners over that span. He ran into his first bit of trouble in the seventh, where he'd give up a three-run homer to Matt Pita which ultimately ended his night. The final line for Francis ended up as 6.2 innings, three runs off five hits, plus a pair of walks and five K's in what was by far his best start of the season.

Following Francis was righthander Adrian Hernandez, the Blue Jays 18th-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, who made his Triple-A debut after a very good 2021 season in which he split time between A- Dunedin, A+ Vancouver, and Double-A New Hampshire. Hernandez went just 0.2 innings but didn't allow a hit and recorded his first Triple-A strikeout.

With a man on first and the tying run at the plate in the eighth, the Bisons went to lefthander Matt Gage to face a pair of lefties in the heart of the Scranton order. Gage promptly struck out both Estevan Florial and Ronald Guzmán to keep the Herd up by two.

The Bisons would tack on another pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a sac fly from Nathan Lukes and an RBI single from Vinny Capra. Gage would remain in the game to finish things off in the ninth, and did so with ease to secure the victory.

The Bisons and RailRiders will do it again tomorrow night for game four of this series, with righty Shaun Anderson set to face off against lefthander JP Sears. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. EST.
