
Late Run by Rochester snaps win streak

(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (7-8) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday evening as the Rochester Red Wings (8-7) won 6-5 behind a go-ahead RBI single from Luis Garcia in the top of the ninth inning. 'Pigs batters walked a season-high 11 times in the game.
Former Lehigh Valley IronPigs outfielder Joey Meneses gave Rochester a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when he hit a two-out home run against Ricardo Sanchez. Rochester then extended their lead to 4-0 against Sanchez in the top of the third inning. Meneses hit a two-run home run and Nick Banks followed up with a solo home run, two at-bats later in the inning.
Lehigh Valley was able to get back into the game in the bottom of the fourth inning against Jefry Rodriguez. Drew Maggi walked with the bases-loaded to score Darick Hall for the first run of the inning. The second run of the inning took place on a wild pitch by Rodriguez that allowed Jorge Bonifacio to score. The third run of the inning came on a passed ball by Rodriguez that allowed Will Toffey to score and cut the lead to 4-3 for Rochester.
Newly acquired outfielder Dustin Peterson hit a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the 'Pigs a 5-4 lead. Donovan Casey tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning with a solo home run against Michael Kelly.
Braeden Ogle (0-1) suffered the loss behind the go-ahead RBI single by Garcia in the top of the ninth inning. Carl Edwards (1-0) earned the win by pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
The IronPigs and Red Wings play at Coca-Cola Park on Friday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
