(NASHVILLE, TN) - In 2019, LHP Wes Benjamin was a member of the Nashville Sounds. On Thursday, he was pitching against them.

Benjamin allowed just one run over seven impressive innings and the Charlotte offense scored five runs en route to a 5-1 win over Nashville in game three of the six-game series from First Horizon Park in Nashville, TN. The win was Charlotte's first of the series and third over the team's last five games.

Making his third start of the season, Benjamin (1-0, 1.59) was sharp to lead the Knights to victory. He allowed just one run on five hits over a season-high seven innings. The talented left-hander walked just one batter and fanned five. Charlotte's bullpen, led by RHP Will Carter and LHP Zach Muckenhirn combined to hold the Sounds scoreless over the final two innings.

Charlotte's offense scored all five runs in the sixth inning against the Sounds. Catcher Carlos Pérez started the scoring with an RBI single to give the Knights the team's first lead of the series.

Third baseman Ryder Jones followed with a sacrifice-fly RBI to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. The scoring continued as left fielder Dwight Smith Jr. and first baseman Jameson Fisher each connected on RBI singles. The Knights added one more run in the inning thanks to second baseman Laz Rivera who drew a bases loaded walk to give the Knights a 5-0 lead. That's all the Knights needed for the win on Thursday night.

Center fielder Mark Payton had a team-high two hits on the night and right fielder Blake Rutherford extended his hit streak to five consecutive games.

The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Nashville Sounds on Friday night with first pitch on tap for 7:35 p.m. ET. All games in the series will air live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action from Nashville.
