Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds put together a complete, 6-3 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Thursday night at AutoZone Park in Memphis.
Shortstop Cory Spangenberg added four RBIs to his season total. Spangenberg drilled his third home run of the season, second of the series, over the left-center field wall to give the Redbirds a 5-0 lead, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth.
Earlier in the game, the shortstop got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in catcher Ali Sanchez.
Memphis starter Connor Thomas (1-0) continued his stellar start to the 2022 season. The left-hander tossed 5.2 innings, allowed two runs and struck out four Storm Chasers en route to his first victory of the season.
Redbirds pitching was assisted by its defense on Thursday night. In total, Memphis turned four double plays and Sanchez threw out a potential base stealer, his third in seven tries.
The Memphis Redbirds (8-7) and the Omaha Storm Chasers (7-8) return to AutoZone Park on Friday night to continue the six-game series at 7:05.
