Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Coming off a one run loss in the last outing, the Mud Hens looked to get back in the win column. The left hander, Joey Wentz took the mound for Toledo, hoping to re-take the series lead against the St. Paul Saints.
Similar to last night's game, the Mud Hens struck first. Kody Clemens hit an RBI double to deep right-center field, scoring Brady Policelli. Clemens now has six RBIs on the season. In the same inning, Daz Cameron hit an RBI single on a line drive to right field. Kody Clemens would be credited with the run. The Mud Hens led 2-0 after two innings. In the top of the third, the Saints would answer back with an RBI ground ball. This cut the lead in half, as the Saints only trailed 2-1.
Joey Wentz would leave the game with 4.2 innings pitched. Despite giving up the run, he struck out three Saint batters, and only allowed two hits. "He was outstanding... He continues to improve and develop." General Manager, Floyd McClendon said. After Wentz left the game, it was up to the Toledo bullpen to hold the lead for the Mud Hens. Nolan Blackwood would relieve Wentz and go 2.1 innings. He allowed no runs, with only two walks. With that, he had two big strikeouts.
Heading into the final inning, the Toledo batters were hoping to get some insurance runs but would fail to prevail. It would be up to Derek Law to close the game for the Hens, in which he succeeded. He would obtain a strikeout in the inning, giving the Toledo pitchers seven total strikeouts combined. The Mud Hens won tonight's game with a score of 2-1. Nolan Blackwood received his first winning decision, while Law obtained his first save this season.
The Mud Hens will look to get their first back-to-back wins this season, in tomorrow's game. First pitch is set to be at 7:05pm.
