Florida Everblades News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Florida Everblades (33-16-3) won their third straight game in a shootout after up-ending the Greenville Grrrowl 3-2 on Tuesday night at the BI-LO Center.
The Everblades tallied the lone first period goal when Ernie Hartlieb banged a rebound past Greenville (31-17-3) net-minder Cam Ellsworth at 12:23 of the period for his 18th goal of the season.
The Everblades extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period when Dan Sisca picked up his 20th goal of the year by dunking home a power play goal just 59 seconds into the period.
In the third period Greenville came up with a pair of goals to tie the game. The Grrrowl cut the Florida lead in half at 6:16 when John Snowden deflected a shot past Everblades goalie Kevin Nastiuk. The Grrrowl completed the come-back when new-comer Steve Slonina, who was acquired in a trade with Stockton on Monday, tallied his 20th goal of the season with 2:25 remaining in regulation.
For the third straight game, the Everblades needed extra time to decide the winner. Neither team scored in the overtime period, which included a power play for the Everblades, sending the contest to a shootout. In the shootout, Florida picked up goals from Steve Saviano and Sisca in the first two rounds, while Greenville managed only a fourth round goal by Snowden. With the shootout win, the Everblades improved to 5-1 on the season in games decided in a shootout.
In goal, Kevin Nastiuk picked up the win after turning away 32 Greenville shots in regulation and overtime to improve his record to 6-2-1. Ellsworth got credit for a tie in goal for Greenville after stopping 21 of 23 Florida shots, bringing his record to 10-4-2.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-for-4, while the Inferno closed out the game 0-for-5.
